Mixed Media and Aspiring Special Make-Up Effects Artist
Soon To Be Certified K-12 Art Educator
Jill Trager is a Philadelphia based artist.
Trager has worked in large-scale installations, plaster, molds and wood. She has been experimenting with clay and has also worked in oil paint, screen printing and recycled objects.
My goal is to constantly push social limits. The work directly connects to understanding human relations and the ways in which experiences shape one's life by focusing on the darker side of society while incorporating morbid events of the past. It is important that I create a sense of controversy while still harboring the stage for a greater conversation to begin. My work is about the alteration of the mind and body through an exploration of characters. The pieces I create help to push the transformation of a model’s body by altering the way in which one may speak, move and look.
This works to invoke a sense of discomfort while pushing the viewer to further question the concepts being explored as well as their own beliefs. To illustrate these ideas, I create special effects appliances that incorporate make up techniques, influence from Universal Monsters and molding formats. I also extract forms of the human anatomy on a larger than life scale while incorporating life casting materials.
Trager is known for being lead special make-up effects artist and producer for Jerks Productions while assisting in the creation of set design, special effects and make-up. Trager's goal is to one day work on the set of horror films around the world while creating original monsters and effects.
Jill Trager was also named one of Philadelphia's RAW Artists in 2013.
